Marina Borawick has been practicing law for thirty years, almost all of which have been in the field of entertainment.  She began her career as an associate at O’Melveny & Myers.  It was at O’Melveny that she got her first exposure to the entertainment business, working on television development and production deals.  Ms. Borawick advanced her entertainment/legal career by joining Orion Pictures, and then moving to MGM/UA Television, Robert Redford’s Wildwood Enterprises, and then Southfork Pictures, as well as several well-regarded private entertainment law firms.  For the last thirteen years, she has maintained her own practice, much of which has been in the service of Warner Bros.

Experience:

Ms. Borawick has handled virtually all aspects of development, production, licensing, and distribution for film, television, home entertainment, and new media, along with some financing work.  In addition, she has negotiated and drafted executive employment agreements, publishing agreements, and information technology consulting and licensing deals.  She has represented writers, writer/producers, producers, actors, directors, distributors, studios, and production companies.  She has been engaged on projects ranging from low budget independent films to high budget studio releases, and all forms of television shows from series, movies, and specials, to reality TV.  Her expertise includes the following kinds of agreements: option/purchase of literary material, writer, writer/producer, term/overall producer, actor test options, actor, director, director of photography, special effects, facilities, personal services, infomercial, casting, costume, lighting, network development, and licensing, and other production related deals.  Ms. Borawick also has extensive experience handling agreements for the acquisition and/or distribution of film and television content in all or select media, both domestically and internationally.

Education:

Ms. Borawick is a graduate of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law (J.D. 1982).  She received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington.  An avid student, she has taken a steady stream of courses at U.C.L.A. and elsewhere, covering languages, the arts, and the entertainment business.

Professional Affiliations:

Ms. Borawick is a member of the State Bar of California.  In addition, she has been active for over ten years on the advisory counsel, and as a volunteer, at historic Beyond Baroque Literary/Arts Center in Venice.  She also is a member of the Writers Table.
